NJ Assembly Panel Advances Permanent Fracking Ban

Law360, New York (February 11, 2013, 7:06 PM EST) -- A New Jersey General Assembly committee on Monday advanced a bill that permanently would ban hydraulic fracturing for natural gas exploration, the first effort to outlaw the practice across the state since Gov. Chris Christie vetoed similar legislation in 2011.

The legislation, A-567, advanced out of the Assembly’s environment and solid waste committee, which will send it to the full Assembly for a vote. The bill calls for an outright ban to hydraulic fracturing — or “fracking” — saying the practice has led to environmental disasters...
