Ban On Fracking Talk In NY Town Curbs Free Speech: Enviros

Law360, New York (February 12, 2013, 2:30 PM EST) -- Two anti-fracking groups hit Sanford, N.Y., with a federal lawsuit on Tuesday, claiming a temporary ban on arguments in town meetings about the controversial method of extracting natural gas from shale rock violates state and federal constitutional free speech provisions.

The town, which sits atop the gas-rich Marcellus shale in Broome County and has pushed to expand gas drilling, has seen anti-fracking groups flood town meetings.
