Judge In $19B Chevron Pollution Fight Denies Bribery Claims

Law360, New York (April 5, 2013, 2:51 PM EDT) -- The Ecuadorean judge behind a $19 billion pollution judgment at the center of an escalating legal war between Chevron and a group of indigenous plaintiffs on Thursday denied bribery allegations against him and affirmed he is the sole author of the purportedly ghostwritten judgment.

Judge Nicolas A. Zambrano asserted in sworn testimony that his execution of the heavily contested judgment was not influenced by bribery, countering allegations made by another Ecuadorean judge that attorneys for the Ecuadorean plaintiffs promised Zambrano $500,000 from the eventual judgment proceeds...
