Judge OKs Cleanup Deal Over Asarco's Arizona Plant

Law360, New York (May 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A judge has approved a settlement between Asarco LLC, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality under which Asarco has agreed to spend up to $13.5 million to clean up contaminated soil near its plant in Hayden, Ariz.

Judge Richard S. Schmidt, of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, said on Tuesday that the settlement “is in the best interests of the debtor and its estate and creditors.” The settlement is still subject to public comments....
