Order on Motion for Extension of Time to Indict
TEXT ONLY ORDER signed by Magistrate Judge Stephen C Dries on 1/20/2026. For the reasons stated therein, and for good cause shown, the court GRANTS the government's unopposed motion to extend timeline for filing an information or indictment, ECF No. 53 . The government may have until February 27, 2026, to file an information or indictment. Further, I find under 18 U.S.C. § 3161(h) that the ends of justice served by taking this action outweigh the best interest of the public and the defendant in a speedy trial. I make this finding because, taking into account the exercise of due diligence, the failure to grant such a continuance would deny counsel for the defendant or the attorney for the government the reasonable time necessary for effective preparation. The court excludes from calculation under the Speedy Trial Act the period from January 16, 2026, through February 27, 2026. (cc: all counsel) (oh)
