Minute Order Order on Motion to Seal
MINUTE ORDER IN CHAMBERS of the Honorable Magistrate Judge Daniel J. Albregts on 5/18/2026.
Re: 68 Motion for Leave to Use Post Office Box as Address of Record and to Seal Plaintiff's Residential Address.
Plaintiff makes two requests in his motion. The first is to proceed using a PO Box as his address of record. But Plaintiff has already changed his address to a PO Box (ECF No. 69 ), so this request is moot. The second request is to seal his address on the docket. Plaintiff states that he has recently relocated. So, it is not entirely clear if Plaintiff is asking the Court to seal every filed document containing his former address, to seal documents containing his new address that he may file in the future, or both. In either event, the Court denies Plaintiff's request. To the extent Plaintiff asks the Court to seal every filed document containing his former address, the Court does not find good cause or compelling reasons to do so because Plaintiff's concern about people knowing where he lives no longer applies to his former address. See Kamakana v. City and County of Honolulu, 447 F.3d 1172 (9th Cir. 2006); see Ctr. for Auto Safety v. Chrysler Group, LLC, 809 F.3d 1092 (9th Cir. 2016). To the extent Plaintiff asks the Court to seal documents containing his new address in the future, the Court declines to grant this prospective relief. If Plaintiff wishes to redact or seal a document in the future, he must review and comply with Local Rule IC 6-1 (concerning redactions) and/or Local Rule IA 10-5 (concerning sealing) and applicable Ninth Circuit caselaw.
IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED that Plaintiff's motion (ECF No. 68 ) is DENIED. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Clerk of Court is kindly directed to update Plaintiff's address on the docket to correspond with that in his notice of change of address (ECF No. 69 ).
