Minute Entry for proceedings held before Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo: FINAL PRETRIAL CONFERENCE, JURY SELECTION and FIRST DAY OF JURY TRIAL. Kevin Terrazas and Eric Hudson appear on Plaintiffs behalf. Plaintiffs corporate representative, Glenda Valdez, is present at counsel table. Monica Johnson, General Counsel for Plaintiff, is also present at counsel table, but did not file a notice of appearance. George Russell Meurer appears on Defendants behalf. Mr. Meurers paralegal, Sandy Verastegui, is also present at counsel table. Defendants corporate representative, Eduardo Covarrubias, is present at defense counsel table. Mr. Covarrubias requires the aid of an interpreter, which he provided at his own expense. At the final pretrial conference, Plaintiff seeks clarification on the Courts ruling on Defendants motion in limine 16. The Court addresses Plaintiffs concern. The Court reminds the parties to confer regarding the proposed jury instructions and to verify the accuracy of all exhibits previously admitted and uploaded to JERS. [Time in Court 8:04 am -8:32 am] The Court conducts general voir dire without objection. Plaintiffs counsel and defense counsel both conduct voir dire without objection. The Court EXCUSES jurors 12, 14 and 23 for cause and without objection. The Court gives each side three preemptory strikes. An eight-person jury is empaneled. The Court places the jury under oath and provides preliminary instructions. Court is in recess for lunch at 12:04 p.m. Court reconvenes at 12:58 p.m. Defendant offers opening statements without objection. Plaintiffs counsel conducts direct examination of Glenda Valdez, and defense counsel conducts cross examination. The Court address counsels various objections.
