Fla. High Court Rejects Gov.'s Bid To DQ Justice

By Carolina Bolado (November 29, 2017, 12:22 PM EST) -- The Florida Supreme Court on Wednesday denied Gov. Rick Scott's bid to disqualify Justice Barbara Pariente from hearing the challenge to his plan to appoint the next three Supreme Court justices on his last day in office.

In a short, one-sentence order, the court denied Scott's motion, which came after Justice Pariente and Chief Justice Jorge Labarga were caught on a "hot mic" discussing members of the judicial nominating commission shortly after oral arguments in the case earlier this month.

The governor had also said that public statements Justice Pariente made in 2012 when she was fighting an effort to vote...
