Washington Presses NRC, DOE Not To Curb Yucca Review

By Derek Hawkins (August 9, 2012, 3:52 PM EDT) -- The Washington Attorney General's Office called on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Department of Energy on Thursday not to use congressionally approved funds to impede Yucca Mountain licensing proceedings until the D.C. Circuit rules in litigation over the site's review.

The attorney general's office asked the agencies in a letter to vow not to use appropriated money or other funds to continue shutting down or increase the cost of the long-pending Yucca review in attempts to create new defenses in the case.
