Kentucky AG Settles OxyContin, Risperdal Suits For $39.5M
By Brandon Lowrey (December 23, 2015, 3:17 PM EST) -- Purdue Pharma LP and Johnson & Johnson will pay a combined $39.5 million to settle respective lawsuits over the narcotic OxyContin and antipsychotic Risperdal brought by the state of Kentucky, its attorney general said Wednesday, ending nearly nine years of litigation.
Under the terms of the settlements, Purdue will pay $24 million, and Johnson & Johnson will pay $15.5 million. Both cases were filed in state courts in 2007 and settled Tuesday, according to a statement from the Kentucky attorney general's office.
