Anthem Says Aetna-Humana Ruling Supports Its Merger Case

By Eric Kroh (January 25, 2017, 5:57 PM EST) -- A District of Columbia federal judge's recent ruling that preliminarily enjoined the merger of Aetna Inc. and Humana Inc. supports Anthem Inc.'s case against the U.S. Department of Justice over the insurer's proposed combination with Cigna Corp., Anthem said Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge John D. Bates, in an opinion handed down Monday, confirmed that any efficiencies generated by a proposed merger should be taken into account when weighing the transaction's competitive consequences, Anthem said in a proposed supplemental briefing.
