Robert G. Swenson Stories of restaurants transitioning to a no-tip policy have been slowly spreading in the news for the past year. Recently national chain Joe’s Crab Shack announced plans for a no-tip policy, while Chicago’s Michelin star rated El Ideas has been one of the front-runners in making the tip a thing of the past. This change has been brought on for a variety of reasons: Minimum wage increases, simplified business reporting and employee satisfaction, to name just a few.
