Private Immigrant Detention Sites Fare Badly With Grievances

Law360 (December 5, 2018, 8:53 PM EST) -- Immigration detention facilities that are privately operated or found in areas that are relatively sparsely populated generated a higher average number of grievances during the 2015 fiscal year than their publicly run counterparts, according to a report released on Wednesday by an immigrants advocacy group.

Facilities operated by corporations or that are found in locations with surrounding populations of less than 50,000 people generated higher rates of grievance reports for issues such as access to counsel or case information or issues with contacting relatives and others, according to the report by the American Immigration Council.
