Nonimmigrant Visas Issued Up 10% In 2015, Report Says

Law360, New York (April 14, 2016, 5:47 PM EDT) -- The number of nonimmigrant visas issued by the U.S. Department of State increased by 10 percent in fiscal year 2015, according to an annual compilation of U.S. immigration statistics released by the Migration Policy Institute on Thursday.

The DOS issued 10.9 million nonimmigrant visas in fiscal year 2015, up 10 percent from 9.9 million in fiscal 2014, said the MPI, which released the information through its online journal, the Migration Information Source.

Of those 10.9 million, 78 percent were temporary business and tourist visas, such as B-1, B-2 and BCC visas, according to MPI. The next largest visa class, at 6...
