Insurer On Hook For $8M After Jury's Bad Faith Verdict

Law360, Los Angeles (January 31, 2018, 8:46 PM EST) -- A Florida state jury has found bad faith in Mercury Insurance Co. of Florida's dealings in the settlement of a car crash-related claim against its policyholder, which allegedly exposed the policyholder to an $8 million judgment that the victim then turned around and pursued Mercury for.

The jury found on Jan. 26, after a five-day trial, that Mercury was liable for bad faith, crash victim Kevin Whitney's lawyers at Domnick Cunningham & Whalen said Wednesday.
