Berkshire Sues Goodyear In Asbestos-Related Insurance Row

Law360, Los Angeles (April 5, 2017, 7:14 PM EDT) -- Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Co. petitioned an Ohio federal court Wednesday to declare it has no duty to pay Goodyear’s costs in defending up to an estimated 62,000 claims in various states over asbestos-related injuries.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is facing about 62,000 claims in New York, Maryland, Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania involving asbestos-related injuries due to alleged exposure to the tire company’s products, including floor tiles, gaskets and furnace hoses.

Goodyear says Berkshire, formerly doing business as Stonewall Insurance Co., must pay its purported share of defense costs with respect to underlying claims since 2008, which total several millions...
