EU-Singapore Trade Deal In Force With New Investment Court

By Sophia Morris (November 22, 2019, 5:38 PM EST) -- A free trade agreement between Singapore and the European Union has come into force, with the deal including the creation of an investment court the EU has said will replace the existing ad hoc investment arbitration system.

The agreement on Wednesday ushered in the creation of an investment court system for the resolution of disputes brought under the pact. This court will include judges appointed by the EU and Singapore in advance, rather than party-appointed arbitrators, to settle investor-state disputes.
