S. Korea Picks WTO Fight Over Trump's Solar, Washer Tariffs

Law360 (May 16, 2018, 4:15 PM EDT) -- South Korea has moved the squabble over President Donald Trump’s safeguard tariffs on solar panel components and washing machines to a more serious phase by filing a formal World Trade Organization dispute against the United States, according to documents published Wednesday.

Until now, numerous countries had opted to challenge the tariffs, which were enacted in January, through the WTO’s Agreement on Safeguards but stopped short of a full-fledged dispute in Geneva. But Seoul crossed the Rubicon this week with two new cases filed against each tariff order.
