Commerce Says Mexican Sugar Deals Protect US Producers

Law360, New York (February 9, 2015, 4:47 PM EST) -- A proposed deal between Mexican sugar producers and the U.S. Department of Commerce would prevent American companies' prices from being undercut, according to an agency memo circulated on Friday after domestic sugar producers cried foul last month.

The memo said that the government had established new, higher floor prices for Mexican sugar by analyzing the market and incorporating feedback from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the domestic sugar industry as part of the proposed deal to suspend countervailing and anti-dumping investigations of Mexican producers.
