Canada Urges Tribunal To Ax Claim Over Shuttered Paper Mill

Law360, New York (January 9, 2017, 8:17 PM EST) -- Canada has urged an international tribunal to reject American paper company Resolute Forest Products Inc.'s CA$70 million ($52.9 million) claim over losses following the government-aided revival of a competitor's paper mill in Nova Scotia, arguing the suit is time-barred and inadmissible.

Canada told a Permanent Court of Arbitration tribunal that Resolute's North American Free Trade Agreement suit was filed too long after the measures in question, which were adopted by the Nova Scotia government between September 2011 and September 2012 in relation to a supercalendared paper...
