Once-Hesitant US Sugar Producers Cheer Mexico Deal

Law360, New York (June 15, 2017, 3:56 PM EDT) -- American sugar farmers and producers on Thursday told the U.S. Department of Commerce that they support an agreement to bring Mexico’s subsidized sugar industry into compliance with U.S. trade laws, after previously expressing hesitancy about the future implications of the deal. 

According to a statement from the American Sugar Alliance, the trade group now says it’s speaking up in support after Commerce “tightened” the agreement.  Along with enforcement assurances from the heads of the Commerce and Agriculture departments, ASA spokesman Phillip Hayes told Law360 on Thursday...
