Chinese Cos. Using Vietnam To Duck Steel Duties: Commerce

Law360, New York (December 6, 2017, 3:19 PM EST) -- Certain steel products imported into the U.S. from Vietnam incorporating materials of Chinese origin are going around existing anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders, according to preliminary findings released Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Commerce instructed U.S. Customs and Border Protection to begin collecting cash deposits on cold-rolled steel and corrosion-resistant, or CORE, steel that is produced in Vietnam using substrate obtained from China, with a final determination on the matter set for February, according to the department’s announcement.
