Microsoft Challenge To Auto-Zoom Patent Denied By PTAB

By Matthew Bultman (May 22, 2018, 3:52 PM EDT) -- The Patent Trial and Appeal Board on Tuesday denied Microsoft's request for a review of a Philips patent covering an auto-zoom feature for mobile devices, the third time in recent months that it has rejected a challenge to the patent.

Microsoft Corp. filed a petition for inter partes review in November, arguing that Koninklijke Philips NV's patent was invalid because it would have been obvious. The PTAB said it wasn't convinced and declined to institute review.

"Petitioner has not demonstrated a reasonable likelihood that it would prevail with respect to any challenged claim," the board wrote.
