Apple Hit With New Voip-Pal Suit Amid $2.8B Patent Battle
By Suzanne Monyak (May 29, 2018, 8:04 PM EDT) -- Voip-Pal, a telecommunications patent holding company already seeking billions of dollars in damages from Apple, has sued the iPhone maker again, this time claiming FaceTime and iMessage infringe four more patents covering the firm's internet-based phone technology.
Voip-Pal Inc. accused Apple Inc. in Nevada federal court Thursday of infringing four recently issued patents covering methods of routing communications between a registered Apple user and nonregistered Apple user using Voice over Internet Protocol technology.
Voip-Pal is requesting enhanced damages, saying Apple willfully infringed the patents, and a "reasonable" royalty or licensing fees.
