NYC's Milk Bar Hits Chicago Upstart With Trademark Lawsuit
By Bill Donahue (April 23, 2019, 3:09 PM EDT) -- Trendy bakery chain Milk Bar is suing a Chicago upstart called JoJo's Milk Bar, accusing the recently opened restaurant of trademark infringement.
The original Milk Bar, founded in Manhattan in 2008 by celebrity chef Christina Tosi and now operating 17 locations, says the brand-new eatery is intentionally trying to confuse consumers into thinking the popular brand has expanded to Chicago.
In a complaint filed Monday in federal court, Milk Bar made pointed reference to news articles in which restaurant reviewers and food writers felt the need to explain to readers that JoJo's was not associated with the older brand.
