Garbage Collection System Patent Axed At PTAB

Law360 (May 20, 2019, 6:23 PM EDT) -- Garbage and recycling truck maker The Heil Co. secured a win at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board on Monday, when the board found a patent covering a system for tracking garbage cans that Heil challenged was invalid.

The PTAB said in a final decision that Heil, a unit of Dover Corp., had shown in inter partes review that each of the challenged claims in the Advanced Custom Engineered Systems & Equipment Co. patent were obvious based on earlier inventions and a magazine article.

The patent covers a system that allows municipalities to track garbage cans with radio frequency chips....
