Comcast Gets Voice Ordering Patent Axed In CBM Review

Law360 (October 8, 2019, 10:24 PM EDT) -- The Patent Trial and Appeal Board has ripped apart a Promptu Systems Corp. patent covering a method of letting TV viewers order videos online using voice commands, invalidating claims under the U.S. Supreme Court’s Alice decision, the recapture rule and definiteness requirements.

The board on Monday invalidated all 21 claims that had been challenged by Comcast Cable Communications LLC in the covered business method review. The decision came just months after oral arguments and after the PTAB said nearly all the same claims were invalid as obvious in a related inter partes review.
