House Bill Aims To Limit ITC Suits By Patent Licensing Cos.

Law360 (August 17, 2020, 8:36 PM EDT) -- A new bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday aims to restrict the ability of patent licensing companies to file suits at the U.S. International Trade Commission, drawing plaudits from a group representing major tech companies.

The Advancing America's Interests Act, or H.R. 8037, is sponsored by Reps. Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., and David Schweikert, R-Ariz., who said in a statement that the ITC's power to ban products found to infringe patents from being imported into the U.S. is being abused by companies that are in the business of licensing patents.
