US Olympic Committee Raises Social Media IP Questions

Law360, New York (August 4, 2016, 4:03 PM EDT) -- Over the last few weeks, the United States Olympic Committee has sent letters to companies that sponsor athletes (but are not sponsors of the games), warning them against infringing USOC intellectual property. One of these letters, written by USOC Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Baird, states: "Commercial entities may not post about the Trials or the Games on their social media accounts. This restriction includes the use of USOC's trademarks in hashtags such as #Rio2016 or #TeamUSA."...
