Ancestry.com To Pay $12.5M To Settle DNA Test Patent Suit

Law360, New York (February 6, 2017, 7:00 PM EST) -- Geneology research website Ancestry.com has agreed to pay $12.5 million to settle patent infringement claims related to saliva DNA-testing kits offered through the company’s website, genetic test developer DNA Genotek Inc. announced Monday.

OraSure Technologies Inc., the parent company of DNA Genotek, said in a statement Monday that Ancestry.com DNA LLC and its product developer Spectrum Solutions LLC have also properly licensed the technology, ending federal district court lawsuits and Patent Trial and Appeal Board proceedings.
