Ex-Nixon Peabody Atty Gets 7 Years For $22M Ponzi Coverup

Law360, New York (September 23, 2013, 4:47 PM EDT) -- A former Nixon Peabody LLP partner on Monday was sentenced to seven years in prison by a California federal judge, following his conviction for helping to cover up a client’s $22 million Ponzi scheme by blocking an investigation by U.S. regulators into the scam.

In sentencing David Tamman, 46, U.S. District Judge Philip S. Gutierrez said that besides the magnitude of the fraud Tamman helped cover up, the stiff prison term was warranted by the fact that he lied to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission...
