Ex-'American Idol' Contestant Targets MTV With $40M Suit

Law360, New York (July 6, 2012, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Former "American Idol" contestant Corey Clark on Thursday launched a $40 million libel suit against MTV Networks Enterprises Inc. and parent company Viacom International Inc. claiming an MTV reporter had repeatedly defamed him and hurt his career.

In a suit filed in the Middle District of Tennessee, Clark said MTV reporter Jim Cantiello had called him a "degenerate" and a "liar" and used his position at the network to "write a continuous, one-sided stream of defamatory material about plaintiff and make disparaging remarks about plaintiff's musical...
