Designer Claims Jay-Z, UMG, Others Owe $7M For Logo

Law360, New York (July 13, 2012, 1:31 PM EDT) -- A New York designer on Thursday lodged a $7 million breach of contract suit accusing multiplatinum rapper Jay-Z, Universal Music Group Inc. and others of failing to pay royalties owed on the design for the Roc-A-Fella Records LLC logo.

In a complaint filed in New York federal court, Dwayne Walker claimed that he was owed royalty revenues for his design of the logo — which features the letter R with a Champagne bottle and a record in the background — used by Roc-A-Fella Records, a subsidiary...
