Nooksack Tribe Asked To Rethink Mass Disenrollment

Law360, New York (December 5, 2016, 6:18 PM EST) -- Nearly 300 people the Nooksack Tribe claims to have removed from its rolls for failing to prove their tribal lineage pressed the tribe on Monday to reconsider that decision, even as the federal government has said it would not recognize the disenrollment.

A group of individuals that the tribe’s council purports to have disenrolled on Nov. 22 called the disenrollment process a “farce” and cited the federal government's vow not to recognize it — the latest development in a long-running battle over membership and control within the Deming, Washington-based tribe.
