Swire Leaving Do-Not-Track Effort To Tackle NSA Spying

Law360, New York (August 28, 2013, 6:38 PM EDT) -- Privacy expert Peter Swire on Tuesday stepped down as co-chair of the working group struggling to craft an online tracking standard, saying that he needed to focus his attention on his new position as a member of a government surveillance review group recently created by President Barack Obama.

Swire sent an email announcing his resignation to members of the World Wide Web Consortium Tracking Protection Working Group shortly after Obama revealed that he had chosen Swire to be part of a group of five outside experts who are tasked with preparing a report by Dec. 15 on the government's data collection...
