FTC Official Sees No Turf War With FCC On Data Security

Law360, New York (November 5, 2014, 6:37 PM EST) -- A Federal Trade Commission official said Wednesday that the regulator welcomed the Federal Communications Commission’s recent foray into data security regulation, adding that the FTC will work to ensure the two agencies' efforts don’t impose conflicting requirements on businesses.

After a keynote presentation at the International Association of Privacy Professionals’ practical privacy series in New York, Maneesha Mithal, the associate director of the FTC’s division of privacy and identity protection, was asked about the commission’s thoughts on a pair of recent actions taken by the FCC related to data security, which has traditionally been the primary domain of the FTC....
