Law360, New York (March 31, 2015, 9:02 PM EDT) -- Verizon Communications Inc. said Tuesday that customers now have the ability to opt out of a controversial relevant advertising program that uses “supercookies” to track cellphone users' habits, following backlash from federal lawmakers and the class action plaintiffs' bar.
In a statement provided to Law360, Verizon spokeswoman Debi Lewis explained that while Verizon currently allows customers to opt out of some advertising programs, it had been working to extend the option to cover tracking activities that use anonymous unique identifier headers, or UIDHs, that have been dubbed “supercookies” due to their ability to record mobile device users' data without their knowledge...
