Caribou Coffee Hit With TCPA Suit Over Text Messages

Law360, Washington (May 6, 2016, 1:49 PM EDT) -- A Wisconsin woman hit Caribou Coffee Co. Inc. with a proposed federal class action Thursday, alleging the coffee chain violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by sending dozens of unsolicited texts to thousands of people who never agreed to receive them.

Kristie Farnham alleges Caribou has sent her about 50 text message advertisements on a daily basis since early March. The five-digit number the messages were sent from is an SMS short code that indicates the they were sent from an automated telephone dialing system and reached several other random cellphone users, the Wisconsin federal complaint says.
