HHS, Ill. Hospital Network Settle Data Breach Action

Law360, Chicago (January 10, 2017, 6:05 PM EST) -- An Illinois-based hospital network settled with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights over claims it failed to properly notify more than 800 of its patients when their personal information was stolen, the department announced Monday.

In the department’s first Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act enforcement action involving delayed reporting of a breach of patient information, Presence Health agreed to pay $475,000 and revamp its policies surrounding the privacy of patient information.
