Deals Rumor Mill: Banco Santander, APE, United Initiators

By Benjamin Horney (July 11, 2016, 4:05 PM EDT) -- Spain's Banco Santander has entered the race to buy the Polish arm of Austrian lender Die Raiffeisen Bank International AG, Reuters reported on Monday, bring the total number of potential suitors to five. The unit, Raiffeisen Polbank IPO-RBP, is Poland's 10th largest lender by assets, the report said, and others interested in scooping up the bank include PKO, Alior, BNP Paribas and Dutch ING. The sale of the unit is part of Die Raiffeisen's restructuring plan, the report noted, as the bank looks to cleanse its balance sheet. A deal could bring in up to $1.1 billion, the report added....
