Mining Co. Seeks To Clean Hands Of Gold King Spill Suit

Law360 (October 14, 2020, 7:07 PM EDT) -- Sunnyside Gold Corp. says enough is enough and wants a New Mexico federal court to let it out of litigation stemming from the 2015 Gold King Mine spill, which the company says happened a dozen years after it sold the Colorado site.

The company said Tuesday that the spill, which was caused after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and its contractors breached a collapsed portal of the mine, was not its responsibility. It had entered into a consent decree over river pollution at the site years before the incident and did adequate work under that agreement that doesn't make it responsible...
