Judge Won't Step Away From Chevron RICO Suit

Law360, New York (February 24, 2012, 10:31 PM EST) -- A New York federal judge on Friday refused to recuse himself from a racketeering suit accusing the lawyer for Ecuadorean claimants in a Chevron Corp. suit over pollution in the Amazon rain forest of conspiring to wage a global extortion campaign against the company.

The attorney, Steven Donziger, had asked U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan to recuse himself, claiming Kaplan had a biased pattern of ruling in favor of Chevron, including granting an injunction, later overturned, blocking the worldwide enforcement of an $18 billion environmental judgment...
