FDA To Help Drugmakers Take To Twitter, Official Says

By Rachel Slajda (April 15, 2013, 7:31 PM EDT) -- The head of drug promotion at the Food and Drug Administration, whose office is working on guidelines for drug sponsors on how to use social media, said in an interview published Monday that drugmakers should be able to promote drugs on Twitter and other platforms with tight space limitations.

Drugmakers have long been waiting for comprehensive guidance on how they may use social media without violating the FDA's extensive restrictions on marketing drugs and reporting potential adverse events. Under the law, the FDA must issue such guidance by July 2014.
