J&J Settles Hip Implant Case Set For Trial In Calif.

By Greg Ryan (October 3, 2013, 6:17 PM EDT) -- Two weeks before trial was set to begin, Johnson & Johnson settled a bellwether case in coordinated litigation in California over injuries allegedly caused by the company's ASR metal-on-metal hip implants, according to a Tuesday filing.

The terms of the settlement agreement, which was revealed in a notice to Judge Richard Kramer on Tuesday, are confidential. Matthew Davis of Walkup Melodia Kelly & Schoenberger, plaintiffs' liaison counsel in the coordinated litigation, declined to comment on the deal. A Johnson & Johnson spokeswoman and attorneys for the company could not be immediately reached for comment.
