Medtronic Escapes Jury’s $18M Surgical Fire Verdict

Law360, Los Angeles (December 6, 2013, 8:53 PM EST) -- A Seattle jury on Thursday found two doctors, their employers and a hospital negligent and responsible for a surgical accident that set a Medtronic Inc. endotracheal tube on fire, awarding the victim $18 million but not finding Medtronic’s design of the tube to be negligent.

Becky S. Anderson sued Medtronic, her doctors and their medical associations after a February 2012 elective surgery caused her airway to be set on fire, leaving her on a ventilator and in permanent long-term care.
