J&J Wins 1st Vaginal Mesh Bellwether Trial

Law360, New York (February 18, 2014, 4:34 PM EST) -- Johnson & Johnson on Tuesday won the first bellwether case against it in the multidistrict litigation over alleged transvaginal mesh injuries, in a roughly five-day trial that concluded when a West Virginia federal judge granted the defendants’ motion for a judgment.

U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin on Tuesday granted a motion for judgment as a matter of law by Johnson & Johnson and its unit Ethicon Inc., according to court filings Tuesday. The ruling was not accompanied by an order, and a representative for the Judge Goodwin’s chamber did not comment on a reason for Judge Goodwin’s decision.
