Law360, New York (May 28, 2014, 7:24 PM EDT) -- Plaintiffs targeting Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Inc. over its Mirena intrauterine contraceptive system on Tuesday asked the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to consolidate in Tennessee federal court nine injury suits that claim the device's release of a synthetic hormone causes serious neurological conditions.

The suits, which the plaintiffs have filed since December, focus on the Mirena IUS' release of Levonorgestrel, claiming it is linked to neurological conditions including pseudotumor cerebri, which causes a buildup of fluid in the skull that can result in blindness. The...
