Philly Asbestos Case Practices, Causation Rules Face Scrutiny

By Matt Fair (November 6, 2014, 5:52 PM EST) -- As part of an appeal over causation in a suit that resulted in a $1 million verdict against Ford Motor Co., the Pennsylvania Supreme Court said Thursday that it would consider the fairness of Philadelphia County's practice of consolidating unrelated asbestos cases for discovery and trial.

The order granting an appeal in the case comes after a May decision by the Pennsylvania Superior Court upholding a $1 million jury award handed to a dealership worker who claimed that he developed mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos fibers in brake pads.
