Colgate-Palmolive Hit With $13M Verdict In Asbestos Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (April 29, 2015, 8:21 PM EDT) -- A California jury has found Colgate-Palmolive Co. liable for $13 million in damages in a suit brought by a 73-year-old woman who said she contracted a rare form of cancer after using asbestos-containing talcum powder made by the consumer products company.

After deliberating for just two hours, the Los Angeles Superior Court jury on Tuesday found unanimously in favor of plaintiff Judith Winkel, who said her use of Colgate-Palmolive’s Cashmere Bouquet product resulted in her January 2014 diagnosis of mesothelioma, a rare and deadly lung disease most commonly caused by asbestos exposure.
