H-4 immigration status is given to dependent spouses and children under 21 of temporary nonimmigrant workers (H-1B, H-1A, H-2B and H-3).[1] Thus, H-4 status is contingent on the principal's H status, which for most H categories is subject to a limited annual quota and difficult to obtain.
